While lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times a year, it kills an average of 49 people annually, injuring hundreds more, according to the National Weather Service. Florida has seen more lightning fatalities — six — than any other state this year.

A lightning strike killed one woman and injured four others on Saturday in White Springs, Florida, Sheriff J. Harrell Reid with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said.

Lightning struck a camper trailer where five people were taking shelter from the rain because of the tremendous downpour, Reid said. A 23-year-old woman was killed and four others were injured.

The storm system included powerful winds, hail and isolated tornadoes, according to CNN meteorologist Haley Brink.

Severe storms and local heavy rains were forecast for Florida and much of the southeastern United States on Saturday, Brink said.

The New Jersey Devils are going back to their No. 1 man between the pipes, as goaltender Cory Schneider will be starting in net Monday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Schneider lost his starting job down the stretch to backup Keith Kinkaid, who had been the more consistent of the two netminders since the start of the second half of the season.
