ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo on Friday said the days-long chaos that ensnarled Kennedy Airport following last week's blizzard was "unconscionable."

Cuomo, in his first public comments on the airport mess, said there was no excuse for what took place at JFK and the Port Authority needs to figure out what went wrong and fix it.

"I blame all of them," Cuomo said. "I blame the private company that operated the terminal, the contractors who were brought in, the Port Authority who was doing the overall supervision.”

Cuomo applauded the Port Authority’s decision to have former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood investigate the airport's response to the snowstorm, calling him a “top pro.”

"We have to know exactly who or what is to blame and it has to be fixed because we're better than this," the governor said.

The Jan. 4 storm and frigid temperatures that followed it snarled operations at JFK, leaving many fliers stranded for days. Things got worse on Sunday when a water main broke and flooded Terminal 4.

"I understand things happen — pipes burst, there was record snowfall,” Cuomo said. “I understand the circumstantial situation but there was still was no excuse for what happened."
