Frost, now the coach of Nebraska, led UCF to a 13-0 season capped with a victory over Auburn in the Peach Bowl. But the Knights were controversially left out of the College Football Playoff despite being the only undefeated team in FBS.

Central Florida decided to anoint itself as the real national champion despite Alabama making it through the CFP to be crowned champion. Last season's UCF players received championship rings, and the program unveiled a championship banner last month.

While UCF won't go into the record books as last season's national champions, Scott's persistent reminders about the flawed playoff system could help a non-Power 5 team in the future.
