Watch Jimmy Kimmel get a colonoscopy with help from Katie Couric

Watch Jimmy Kimmel get a colonoscopy with help from Katie Couric Eighteen years after Katie Couric’s groundbreaking televised colonoscopy on NBC’s Today show, Couric helped late-night host Jimmy Kimmel get the procedure done as he turned 50 years old. With help from Couric, Kimmel prepped for his colonoscopy the night before the exam and was later driven to the hospital by the former morning-show host for the procedure. “People say this isn’t fun, but I say it’s a lot more fun than being diagnosed with colorectal cancer,” Couric, whose husband died of colon cancer in 1998, told Kimmel. “That’s true,” replied Kimmel. “You should put that on a bumper sticker. A long bumper sticker.” Kimmel’s colonoscopy went off without a hitch — he had a clean colon with no polyps — and the comic even walked away with some personal items found during the exam: his car keys, some toy soldiers, and a harmonica.

Jimmy Kimmel's deeply emotional monologue came with a price.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live last May, the late-night host revealed that his son, Billy, who was less than a month old at the time, had to undergo open-heart surgery. While tearfully talking about what his family was facing, Kimmel became very vocal about what he thought of America's current healthcare system.

In the April issue of O magazine, which is currently on newsstands, Oprah Winfrey asks Kimmel if it was "scary" to share so much of his personal life and points of view with his viewers.

"I don’t know if it was scary, but it was uncomfortable, and it’s not something I looked forward to," he admits. "I definitely felt a sense of relief when it was over."

Jimmy Kimmel Says He’s Filing A Federal Complaint Against The Trumps

Jimmy Kimmel Says He’s Filing A Federal Complaint Against The Trumps Jimmy Kimmel might end up costing President Donald Trump’s family some big money. In light of the White House’s “buy American” rhetoric, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host bought a bunch of merchandise from the Trump Store, which is run by two of the president’s sons, to see where it all came from. “I’m sure Eric and Donald Jr. take this American thing very seriously,” Kimmel said. “These guys are red, white and blue to the core. They’re like a couple of flags wearing hair gel, these two.” Well, not so much.

Kimmel notes that his candidness did have a downfall. "According to polls I’ve seen, it has cost me commercially. That’s not ideal, but I wouldn’t change anything I said."

During several of his monologues thereafter, the 50-year-old TV personality has urged JKL viewers to contact their congressional representatives about renewing CHIP, the Children’s Health Insurance Plan, which provides healthcare coverage to children whose families don't qualify for Medicaid and don't receive other benefits.

Oscars Jet Ski Winner Reacts to His Big Prize (Exclusive)

Oscars Jet Ski Winner Reacts to His Big Prize (Exclusive) Host Jimmy Kimmel promised the wave-cruising vehicle to the Oscar-winner with the shortest acceptance speech, and 'Phantom Thread' costume designer Mark Bridges took the honor! In a (futile) effort to tighten up acceptance speeches at this year's Academy Awards, the Oscars host revealed during his opening monologue that the winner with the shortest speech would go home with more than gold -- and get a sick green jet-ski!

"I know my job is, for the most part, to entertain people and make them laugh. That said, if I can be selfish every once in a while and talk about something serious that’s important to me, then I do want to take that opportunity," Kimmel tells Winfrey. "But I don’t want to abuse my position. I pick my battles. Ninety percent of the time, I’ll joke around, but some of the jokes, I hope, make people think."

In an exclusive interview with ET's Kevin Frazier ahead of hosting the Oscars earlier this month, Kimmel spoke further about how his son's heart condition has shifted his perspective on life.

"It makes me more thankful in general for sure," he said. "To be honest, it minimizes the importance of something like [the Oscars], which last year to me seemed to be the more important thing in the world. And then you just get the reminder that this isn't even close to the most important thing in the world, and you're reminded of that every day when you go home, so in a way, yes, it's definitely made me appreciate my life, but it also puts things in perspective."

Jimmy Kimmel Reveals Why He and Wife Molly 'Didn't Want to Get Too Close' to Son Billy at First .
Jimmy Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney overcame a heart-wrenching few months when their baby son William “Billy” John underwent two heart surgeries. Billy, now 11 months old, was born with congenital heart condition tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, which his famous father first revealed during a tearful address in May when Kimmel, 50, announced that his youngest child had open heart surgery at 3 days old. Reflecting on Billy’s health condition, the late-night host recently told Oprah Winfrey that he and McNearney had brief feelings of detachment. “There were secrets we kept from each other that we revealed only after the second surgery. The biggest one was that, I think subconsciously, we didn’t want to get too close to the baby because we didn’t know what was going to happen,” Kimmel said in an interview for O, The Oprah Magazine‘s April issue. But when I told her I was feeling that way, she said, ‘Oh I’m so happy you said that because I was feeling that way too, and I didn’t want to express it,’ ” the father of four recalled. Kimmel and McNearney also share 3-year-old daughter, Jane. The 2018 Oscars host has two older children – Kevin and Katie – from a previous relationship.
